CURRICULUM VITAE

 

Prof. Dr. Ladislaus Rybach leads the research group Geothermics and Radiometry.
He worked as expert in both fields in USA, China, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, and Turkey. His interest includes general and applied geothermics as well as natural and artificial radioactivity.
He was born 1935 in Sopron (Hungary), academic degrees from ETH Zurich, postdoctoral fellow at Rice University Houston (USA, 1965-66), Guest Scientist U.S. Geological Survey (1979, 1981).
Chairman, Executive Committe for IEA R&D Project "Man-made Geothermal Energy Systems" (1977-1980). Member of European Geophysical Society Council (1979-82), International Heat Flow Commission (1975-87, again since 1995), International Commission on Thermal and Mineral Waters (since 1988). Guest Scientist, Academica Sinica (Institute of Geology), Beijing (1987). Author/Editor of major textbooks in geothermics and geothermal energy, Lecturer at the International School of Geothermics (Pisa, Italy), at the UN University Geothermal Training Program (Reykjavik, Iceland), and at the Geothermal Institute, Auckland University (New Zealand). Editorial/Advisory Board Member of the journals Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research (1984-90), Tectonophysics (1986-92), Geothermics, Geothermal Science and Technology, Journal of Geodynamics, Terra cognita/nova (1981-1996), Environmental Geology. Board of Directors Member, International Geothermal Association (since 1989), IGA European Branch Forum member (since 1996), IEA/OECD Geothermal Implements Agreement Executive Committee Chairman (since 1997); Chairman, organizing Committee World Geothermal Congress 2000 (since 1997); Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (since 1990), Honorary Member, Hungarian Geophysical Association (since 1992).
